Time to update my travel blogging. I’m still in London, lying low, hunkered down with my daughter and her family, enjoying the time together. We are quite content to stay around Fulham, catching up on the two years we were not able to see each other.
We are playing card games, watching movies and game shows, and spending time with the boys when they are not on their devices! And of course, drinking wine and generally, having a good time! Besides, we need some downtime between all the celebrations.
After having the required Covid Test and completing all the online paperwork, I had a nail-biting few hours before my flight left, waiting for the result of the test. It came in at 4 am, Julie picked me up at the airport at 5 am, and my flight left for Miami at 8:15 am.
Well, it was a day’s layover at Miami airport, and boy – that was no fun, except for the long lunch I allowed myself at the Clubhouse One Restaurant. Being in Florida, I decided to have Miami’s famous Cuban sandwich: sweet ham, slow-roasted pork, mustard, and pickles on Cuban rye bread while lingering over a Moscow Mule: Grey Goose vodka, ginger beer, and lime.
I had an excellent flight to London. With two empty seats next to me, I could stretch out under the armrests and sleep. It was great seeing my family waiting for me at Heathrow airport.
Although we’re staying close to home, there’s still plenty to see and do within a few blocks. We had a festive Christmas lunch at The White Horse near Parson’s Green tube station. Described as a Victorian gastropub, it has a mahogany interior, flagstone flooring, and a ‘heated’ garden area overlooking Parson’s Green Square. In the eighteenth century, Parson’s Green was a hamlet within the manor of Fulham, a pleasant rural village with farms and market gardens outside the capital of London. Today, there are still two green, open spaces in the Parson’s Green residential areas.
Lunch was great! Scallops and bacon,
Beef Wellington, and
traditional Christmas Pudding!
Three days later, it was my young grandson, Jake’s birthday. I was so happy to share the occasion.
I met my ex-colleague and neighbor from Hazyview days, Coreen Lottering for breakfast at The Hive Cafe on Fulham Rd.
What a great time we had, chatting about the old days while enjoying Eggs Benedict with salmon.
