Daniel Island Cuisine

Kingstide Restaurant, Daniel IslandCovid put all physical travel on hold, but it has not stopped me from planning, writing, and dreaming about future trips.

The Viking cruise, Waterways of the Tsars, has been rescheduled for June 2022; the tour to experience the Migration of the Animals at the Serengeti Mara in Tanzania is on for August and the Cultural Tour in South Africa for November.

In the meantime, I am enjoying exploring my hometown, Charleston. During the epidemic, I sold my townhouse off Clements Ferry and moved back to Daniel Island, where I started my life in the USA. While writing an article about the restaurants on Daniel Island, I realize how lucky we are to have a world in one here, gastronomically speaking! Within a few square miles, we have eateries specializing in Southern, American, Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine.

Daniel Island’s newly developed Waterfront is on my doorstep. It boasts a new restaurant, The Kingstide, with decks overlooking the Wando River and, very aptly, specializing in seafood. Adjacent is a coffeeshop, DIME, with a lovely courtyard. Along the trail past my condo is an old Live Oak tree dating back to before Columbus reached the ‘New World’. And to think that the infamous Blackbeard sailed this river and blocked the Charleston port with his four ships, pillaging and holding people ransom.

Read all about my selection of 11 restaurants on Daniel Island in an upcoming article for The Foodie Flashpacker.
