Lobsters, lobsters and more lobsters! We were on the lobster trail and had to try a lobster roll in each city. I had also been enjoying the hot tubs and swimming pools along the way, and the Best Western Hotel in Portland was no exception. After a really good breakfast, we were ready for a city tour and a visit to the Victoria Mansion. We had a fascinating insight into how the latter was being restored, and also enjoyed the display of Victorian dresses in the different rooms. Lunch was….lobster rolls…. at the Portland Lobster Company.
The next day, we were off to Rockland. We were thrilled with our accommodation at the Trade Winds Inn, centrally located and with a beautiful view. We spent time at the Maritime Museum and the Puffin Center before having another ….lobster roll …. at Claws restaurant.
We loved the beautiful trees, quaint clapboard houses and interesting signs as we wounded our way to Bar Harbor. The accommodation and views at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel & Conference Center did not disappoint! In case you were wondering, lunch was lobster bisque and …. lobster roll …. at the Stewman’s Lobster Pound. After a drive through the Arcadia National Park, we settled down for sundowners while overlooking the water and reminisced about our wonderful road trip through New England. We are all fired up for writing those travel articles!
Our journey ended at the Bangor airport where Jo left for home and my family waited to pick me up. I spent a wonderful weekend with my daughter Georgina and granddaughter Donella, enjoying the hotel pool and visiting the lumberjack Paul Bunyan statue and Maine Discovery Museum, a highly recommended children’s museum. While we really enjoyed excellent meals at the Ground Round restaurant nearby, the highlight was the fare at a local food truck, Lobstah Bouy, parked near the airport …. rolls filled with succulent, freshly shucked lobster!
